Description

The Master in Anthropology is designed to train social anthropologists, archeologists and physical anthropologists, through advanced studies in the disciplines in this field of Social Sciences. The program is oriented towards researchers, teachers and professionals in Anthropological Sciences, in order to achieve a high level of performance in universities, research centers and public and private institutions. It is executed through the inter-institution collaboration of two of the most active anthropological research centers in the North of Chile: the Institute of Archeological Research and Museum of Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) in San Pedro de Atacama and the Anthropology Department of Universidad de Tarapacá (UTA) and its Museum in San Miguel de Azapa in Arica. It aims to train graduates capable of conducting advanced research in the field of anthropological research in original and creative ways. The Graduate Program in Anthropology, as a whole, has recently focused its efforts on internationalization, in order to position itself on a macro-regional level (Andean Center-South).

Objectives

The objectives of the Master in Anthropology are: To train graduates capable of conducting advanced research in the field of anthropological research in original and creative ways. To decentralize graduate education by benefiting from the scientific experience and productivity of the sponsoring institutions and the anthropological wealth of the area where the program is taught. To support graduate education through the participation of students in advanced anthropological research activities carried out by the participating academic departments. To strengthen graduate education through activities of student and academic exchange, through cooperation agreements with national and international universities and research centers.

Candidate Profile

The Master in Anthropology is oriented towards Social Anthropology, Archeology and Physical Anthropology professionals, as well as those from related disciplines such as History, Sociology, Museology and Conservation, among others. Applicants must have an undergraduate training of at least 8 semesters in a Chilean or foreign university.
