Description

This professional program is oriented towards professionals in the fields of Health Care and Local Development, and aims to provide competencies in intersectorial strategies for the improvement of local sanitary indicators, a characterization of population in its broad and diverse complexity, and research to help assess local reality. It aims to contribute to high-level training in theoretical and conceptual aspects of areas such as Territory and Environment, Epidemiology, Development, Participation, Public Policies, Management and Research. The goal is to promote local knowledge-production processes, healthcare interventions, and development that is relevant to local socio-cultural realities, all in agreement with public policies. This 2-year, on-campus program consists of 5 modules or courses: Social and Community Epidemiology, Local Development and Social Participation, Social Policies and Health Care Management, Research and Intervention Methodologies, and Territory and Environment. To earn the degree, students must produce a final work consisting of a study, an intervention project or a systematization project.

Objectives

"General objective:
To train public sector and civil society professionals in the conceptual and political aspects of Public Health, Epidemiology, Research and Intervention Methodologies, applicable at the regional and local levels.
Specific objectives:
To identify theories and concepts related to Public Health and Development, conditioning elements associated to the environmental, socio-political and economic territorial context.
To use methodologies for a comprehensive epidemiological, environmental, socio-economic and socio-cultural analysis of territorial problems in Public Health.
To provide competencies for applied research that lead to the production of knowledge and the proposal of solutions to Public Health problems."

Candidate Profile

Applicants must have a professional and/or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Education or similar, granted by a national or foreign university, in a program officially recognized by Chile, preferably with experience in the field of Health Care or Local Development.
