Description

In our country, Medical Physics is a recently created field and it has to do with the application of Physics to Medicine. This pioneering academic and professional program exists since 2007, requiring a minimum of 2 years, extendable to 3. All coursework is concentrated during the first year and a half. After this, students begin writing a thesis, as well as a short (1 month) and a long (4 months) residency at clinical centers that have signed agreements with our program. Next year the program will be divided into academic and professional modes, with a year and a half and the thesis in common, allowing students in the academic mode to pursue doctoral studies, while those in the professional mode have a one-year professional residency and may work as a Medical Physicist in Health Care and related fields.

Objectives

"To provide specialized graduate training equivalent to a Master’s degree for: students with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering Sciences (and similar) and Health Sciences (related to Medical Physics), in order to develop as efficient and creative Medical Physicists in the clinical environment and/or to start a career in research in this field.
To provide new, specialized job opportunities for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering or Health Sciences.
To meet part of the country’s demand.
To produce and strengthen a line of research in Medical Physics.

Candidate Profile

"Graduates will acquire a solid theoretical and practical background in order to develop and systematically increase both their ability to generate creative solutions to problems in the medical field, as well as their capacity for high-level scientific and technological research.
They will be capable of analyzing, synthesizing and projecting research or intervention proposals in their respective areas of expertise, in the field of Medical Physics.
As part of medical teams, they will be able to help make the right decisions, as well as to solve problems and deal with new challenges.
Graduates will be responsible, creative professionals with a spirit of improvement and an ability for teamwork."
