Description

Created in 1993, Universidad de La Frontera’s Master in Communication Sciences was the second program to offer this discipline in Chile. Its goal is to contribute to the development of Communication Sciences by training new researchers and specialists to confront topics in this area with a critical vision and an emphasis on the intercultural phenomena inherent to Chile’s southern zone. This goal is consistent with the university’s mission, in terms of “contributing to the development of the region and the country by creating and transmitting knowledge and training graduate students and professionals.” The program also assumes the institutional commitment “to quality and innovation, to respect for people, the environment and cultural diversity, to the creation of a more democratic, just society” (Mission of Universidad de La Frontera). Since its creation, the program has trained 105 graduates qualified to join higher education institutions as researchers, lecturers or specialists, as well as public or private institutions requiring their expertise. Together with other programs in Chile’s southern zone, this Master’s program has implemented a disciplinary development center that is recognized by the national and foreign academic communities.

Candidate Profile

"The Master in Communication Science trains graduates with a solid theoretical and methodological background in Communication Science, with an emphasis in a critical approach to semio-discursive and intercultural phenomena. Its graduates are capable of designing and conducting research projects in Communication Science and adequately reporting their progress and results to the academic community. As specialists in this scientific field, they are also capable of transmitting and applying this knowledge in both academic and non-academic contexts.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s or professional degree (or equivalent training), recognized by the Chilean State, preferably in the area of Communication Science.
• Being willing to read bibliography in other languages such as English, French or Portuguese, at a reading comprehension level.
• Meeting the personal and working conditions to attend and fulfill the program’s academic requirements."
