Description

This Master’s program provides a solid training in theoretical and applied aspects of Geophysics. Graduates will be capable of high-level professional performance in activities where this knowledge is relevant. It also provides appropriate training for individuals interested in pursuing an academic career in research and undergraduate teaching in Earth Sciences, as well as gaining an advantage when applying to doctoral programs. From a professional point of view, the program allows graduates to participate creatively in the quantitative assessment and solution of problems related to earthquakes, seismic risk, seismotectonics, prospection of natural resources (mining, oil, water), the study of regional geological structures, geothermics, territorial arrangement, the environment, atmospheric pollution, operational meteorology, and the use of climatologic information for hydrological, oceanographic, agricultural and mining purposes.

Objectives

To train graduates with great analytical skills and a strong background in theoretical, technical, modeling and applied aspects of Earth Sciences. This program offers specializations in areas such as Seismology, Solid Earth Geophysics, Geophysical Prospection and Atmospheric Sciences.

Candidate Profile

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering Sciences which provides advanced training in Physics, Mathematics and the use of scientific computing tools.
